Against all the odds, the dental implants have survived for 13 years.

Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry and the replacement of teeth since Dr. P. Brånemark first placed modern dental implants in his patients in 1965. Dental implants are very successful if they are placed following basic principles of dental implant surgery.

One of these principles is regarding mesial-distal positioning of implants. There should be at least 1.5 mm of space between the implant and any adjacent teeth, and 3 mm of space between adjacent implants.

Otherwise the surrounding bone will not survive. Bone resorption will happen.

However, nothing is impossible!

Poorly placed dental implants

These two dental implants were placed in Italy 13 year ago and the crowns came off recently. The implants were placed too close to each other but the implants are still very solid. They survived against all the odds! Very lucky patient and even more lucky dentist! Two new implant supported crowns were made and cemented to the existing abutments. Hopefully they can survive another 13 years.
