Braces are normally the first option to fix crooked teeth for teenagers. There are many reasons causing teeth crowding. In this case, the narrow top jaw (maxilla) couldn't accommodate the teeth in a straight way, and also caused crossbite at the back teeth.
To fix the narrow maxilla, a rapid palatal expander was used to widen the upper jaw by breaking the suture between left and right maxilla, then slowly expanded it. For adult patients, jaw surgery is needed to break the suture. After the expansion, the space achieved was big enough to straighten the teeth without any extractions.
The final result of this orthodontic treatment was very satisfying and the patient was really happy.
