Myofunctional therapy is treatment aimed at changing muscle function and possibly influencing jaw growth and the position of the teeth. Traditional orthodontics is aimed at moving the teeth but myofunctional orthodontics is about changing the oral environment and ridding the patient of the oral habits that are causing the malocclusion. The treatment can start as early as at age 5.
This case showed how myofunctional therapy improved teeth crowding. Some teeth could be aligned more with longer treatment time, or braces if couldn't be improved with myofunctional therapy. However, the patient was happy with the result and didn't want to continue to fix the minor issues.
