Dental implants and implant-supported restorations are an excellent treatment in dentistry, and getting more and more popular. However, as a dentist, one of the most important goals is to help our patients keep their natural teeth whenever possible.
This tooth broke down to the gum line, with incomplete root canal treatment and old technique (silver points). Apart from saving the tooth, extraction and implant with sinus lift (because of low sinus floor) was another option. The final decision was to save the tooth, even though implant was more predictable in long term. To save the tooth, procedures involved included root canal re-treatment, post and core buildup, crown lengthening, and a porcelain fused metal crown.
The result was satisfactory. Hopefully we can follow it up in many years to see long term result.
